On the Rebound

I am rather pleased and excited to say that I have just completed my first AIR for Android game.

Now, I will be the first to admit, it may not be the most exciting game in the world, but it is exactly the type of game I would enjoy (and have enjoyed) playing on the train or bus or standing around in queue somewhere.

The object is to just use your finger to slide some circular game pieces up the playing board, off some bumpers and down into a scoring area without hitting the end. Think shuffle board or curling around a corner.

Here’s a quick screenshot:

Get the game for free in the Android Marketplace here (click on the QR image if you’re currently browsing on an Android device):

And for the Geek bits.

The game was built for 480×800 resolution and so far only tested on a Galaxy S. If it works or doesn’t work on any other device, please leave a comment either here or in the marketplace.

And for those who care, the physics were done using Box2D. It runs a nice 19 to 24 FPS on my Galaxy. Again, though, any problems or no problems at all with performance, although I may not do anything about it, I’d be interested in hearing.

  1. Hey devon I tried to use the qr code but it says not found.
Tried searching the market and I get something else called rebound.
Could you please double check the qr code ?
I have an HTC Evo now running froyo 2.2, Adobe flash and air

  2. That’s strange – someone else using an HTC had problems finding it as well. I wonder if it’s because it mentions the Samsung Galaxy S in the description so other devices are excluded. Seems an unlikely long shot, so I doubt it. Also it I ‘hard designed’ it so it only works with a 480×800 resolution, that may be excluding some devices from finding it as well. Also seems unlikely though. In any case, I’ll upload the .apk to download directly for anyone having that problem later (tried doing it last night, but accidentally upped the .swc instead.. oops.).

  3. And here is a direct link to the .apk. Again though – it requires Android 2.2, AIR for Android and a 480×800 resolution. http://www.onebyonedesign.com/downloads/rebound/rebound.zip

Great game. Two thumbs up. HTC Evo
Smooth as margarine.( i’d say butter but unless softened butter is not so smooth. And this is smoother.

  5. By the way thank you for putting an exit in there. Too many apps I fault with running in the bg after exiting. Really appreciate that and give it a third thumb up for that.

  6. That’s a whole lotta thumbs. :)

Thank you for checking it out – and for taking the time to let me know it runs on the Evo. I’m really glad to hear that.

  7. Hey devon one suggestion , how about a share high score feature. I don’t know if you want to keep developing this but I’m really enjoying it.

  8. Thanks for the suggestions. I’m really glad to see that somebody likes it. If I were to continue development, I’d like to:

    a. redesign with more interesting menus and to allow different sized screens
    b. add the ability to share scores on FB and / or twitter
    c. rethink the sounds.

At the moment though it has less than a 100 installs, so it’s not a very popular game. Plus I know me – I get sidetracked by shiny new things to play with and rarely come back to projects.

So, anyway, it could go either way… :)
